Whiskey Route

Machame is the westernmost route to scale the southern slopes of Kilimanjaro. The route is slightly challenging than of the other forest/moorland routes but, like the other routes, it does not require any technical ability. The beauty of vegetation, scenery and the stunning views of the Shira Plateau make this route highly attractive. The success rate for reaching Uhuru has traditionally always been higher on the Machame Route. No doubt this has been at least partly due to the fact that it provides a longer ascent and that consequently you are allowed to acclimatize better ahead of the summit bid.

Day One: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to Hotel
- Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you will meet with our Malisenyi Tours representative, and transfer to the hotel under the rate. The hotel will provide all the essentials for a comfortable stay: cozy rooms, hot water, polite staff, a swimming pool, and Internet access. In the evening there will be a briefing with your Kilimanjaro guides, who will also make sure you are ready to begin the climb.

Day Two: Moshi hotel to Machame Gate to Machame Camp
- Transfer from the hotel in Moshi to arrive at Machame gate for registration formalities. Start a steady climb at the gate and take the trail leads rain forest. The path continues to Machame hut to arrive in the evening where hot water will be served for washing. Sign in again while you are at the campsite and later have some hot tea with popcorns and biscuit. Stay at the campsite when you just waiting for the dinner and overnight.

Day Three: Machame Camp to Shira Cave
- Climb through moorland zone which provides stunning view of Kibo peak. The trail leads to Shira cave to arrive in the afternoon. Rest and have refreshments upon arrival while waiting for the hot dinner.

Day Four: Shira Cave to Lava Tower to Baranco Camp
- Hike from the Shira cave and the process meant to acclimatize through lava tower which is 4600M and descends down to Baranco hut which is 3900M just to adjust the body. Rest for a while at the tower and wait for the lunch. Start descending the tower and finally arrive at Baranco hut for the dinner and overnight stay.

Day Five: Baranco Camp to Karanga Camp
- Our day starts by descending into the start of the Great Barranco, a huge ravine. We then exit steeply, up the Great Barranco Wall, which divides us from the south-eastern slopes of Kibo. It’s a climb over rock, not technical but long and tiring. Passing underneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers, we head towards the Karanga valley. From here we have a steep climb up from Karanga valley to our night’s camp at Karanga camp, set at 3963m. For those feeling strong we will go for a mid-afternoon acclimatization trek up to around 4200m before descending back to camp for the night.

Day Six: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
- Trek out the Karanga camp to reach Mweka junction 4500M.Proceed with the hike to join Mweka trail which finally leads to Barafu hut. Take as much rest and drink water upon arrival to prepare your body for the final target. Dinner and overnight stay at the campsite. It’s recommended to sleep early by 19:00pm

Day Seven: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
- Leave the campsite and start summiting by midnight into the glacial zone. The path leads to Stella point 5756M.Have time for the sun rise pictures and a short rest for 5 to 10 minutes while having water or hot tea at Stella point. For the climbers who have experienced AMS are advised to start descending down, however for those interested can take a round trip along the crater rim to reach Uhuru Peak 5895M.Proceed by descending down from the summit, have a short rest to the base camp again for 2 hours. Have some lunch, repack your gears and start to descend down to Mweka Camp 3100M “pole pole” through Mweka route.

Day Eight: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
- A gentle trek takes us down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where we complete park formalities and receive certificates, which you can hang up with pride! We are then met by our vehicles and return to the hotel in Moshi, where you can treat yourself to a welcome shower then celebrate with cold drinks. Overnight at your arranged Hotel

Day Nine: Departure | End of Tour
- Malisenyi Tours will make sure that every penny of time in Kilimanjaro will be thrilled one. On the day of departure, you will take the tour to some places in particular Coffee plantations, Materuni waterfalls, Chemka Hot springs for warm shower or chagga tribe cultural museum and chagga tribe local cuisines. This experience will be done around noon, and will depart all the way to Air Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

What is the best time to climb Mountain Kilimanjaro?
- You may climb Mt. Kilimanjaro anytime. Though it is important to know that there is best time for perfect weatherly trek. There are two best seasons for amazing treks and they are Early June to October and December to late February. The uniqueness of this seasons is that, the climate is perfect with temperate cold as compared to March to May which is always very cold and rainy.
